About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a People and Culture Administrator to join the National Institute of Teaching. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to develop your HR skills and gain valuable experience in a supportive environment.

This role plays a crucial part in shaping the future of our workforce and ensuring a positive employee experience. Key areas of responsibility are supporting the recruitment process by placing job adverts, arranging interviews, onboarding new employees, payroll administration, and supporting the Head of People and People Officer by ensuring that all People and Culture processes run smoothly and effectively.

We are looking for someone with a strong track record of providing administrative support, who can follow and track different administrative processes. Excellent organisational skills are essential as is being proactive and self-motivated, with a positive approach to work.

The role will be based at either our Bristol Campus (BS10 5PY), Birmingham Campus (B15 2HU) or London Campus (BR3 1QP) so you should be within commutable distance. The role is hybrid with the need to be on site at least once a fortnight. This role does involve travel once a month to one of our other sites across the country and travel expenses will be paid.

Previous HR experience is not essential, however an interest in HR practises and learning more about employment law is a must. If you are passionate about people and eager to make a difference, we would love to hear from you.

Corporate Responsibilities

  • To ensure that the responsibilities of the role are carried out in a way which reflects the mission and the values of the NIoT.
  • To be aware of and observe all policies, procedures, working practices and regulations, and in particular to comply with policies relating to Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety, Confidentiality, Data Protection and Financial Regulations, reporting any concerns to an appropriate person.
  • To comply with all reasonable management requests.

Key Responsibilities

  • To be responsible for the recruitment, onboarding and induction processes, and acting as the key point of contact for line managers.
  • To ensure that safer recruitment procedures are complied with throughout the entire recruitment process.
  • To ensure that new starter checks are completed thoroughly and that Safeguarding, DBS and Right to work checks comply with statutory requirements, including completion of the Single Central Record.
  • To maintain records and report on pay movements and contractual changes, inputting information into the relevant systems.
  • To ensure that all employee files contain the required information and are well maintained.
  • To ensure all starters, leavers and changes are processed and recorded correctly.
  • To liaise with payroll on required changes to ensure all records are correct and employees are paid on time and correctly.
  • Monitor the recruitment and HR inboxes and HR phone line.
  • Work with line managers to ensure new employees go through the NIoT induction process and the new starter induction training is completed.
  • Monitor where candidates are viewing recruitment adverts and use the data to influence where we place adverts.
  • Support the regions with onboarding of Facilitators who are not school based.
  • Monitor the completion of key activities, such as mandatory training and appraisal.
  • To support the Head of People with arranging Learning and Development activities for employees.
  • Support with formal meetings by taking comprehensive and accurate minutes.

Essential Criteria

  • Previous experience in an administrative role, including experience of monitoring and tracking multiple administrative processes.
  • Interest in Human Resources/People and Culture.
  • Experience of minute taking.
  • Strong IT skills, including MS Office (Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent attention to detail, organisation, and ability to prioritise effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams.
  • Proven ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Proactive and self-motivated, with a positive approach to work.
  • Passion to deliver high levels of customer services.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience of working in HR administration.
  • Experience of working in the charity or education sector
  • Knowledge of the Equality Act 2010.
  • CIPD Level 3 Foundation Certificate

Contract: Permanent, Full Time

Salary: £28,598 per annum plus benefits (£32,533 per annum with London Weighting)
