Report harassment or sexual misconduct

Make a report

Select the option below to make either an anonymous or identifiable report. You will be taken through to a reporting form, which will guide you through the process.

How does making a report work?

The National Institute of Teaching (NIoT) is dedicated to creating a safe, welcoming, inclusive and diverse community that nurtures a healthy environment and culture of mutual respect and consideration. We aim to allow all members to thrive without fear of harassment, bullying, discrimination, sexual violence, abuse, coercive behaviours or related misconduct.

You can report any incidences of harmful behaviours, such as sexual violence, harassment, bullying, stalking or other inappropriate behaviours using the reporting options above.

Whether you are a staff member or student at the NIoT, you can submit an anonymous or non-anonymous report regarding your experiences.

A member of the Student Support Team will triage your report, and appropriate action will be taken in line with the Harassment and Sexual Misconduct Policy. Registered students at NIoT and staff members can access confidential advice and support, and will be listened to with respect and understanding.

You can make a report to speak to a member of staff at the NIoT, who will discuss your options after your report is triaged. If you are a student, this will be a member of staff from the Student Support Team. If you are a staff member, this will usually be a member of the People Team.

You can also report anonymously if you wish to inform NIoT about your experience, but do not wish to be identified or contacted about the report.

How will my report be handled?

All reports made will be triaged and we will consider investigation in line with the Harassment and Sexual Misconduct Policy. We recommend reading the policy, as this contains all the information needed about options and how your report will be handled by the Student Support and Welfare Team.

We will talk with you about all your options when we meet following your report (please note, we can only contact you directly if you make a formal report and disclose your name and contact details). Staff investigating and handling any reports receive training in ‘Trauma Informed’ approach, and you can be certain your report will be handled sensitively, your concern will be taken seriously, and your views will be respected.

We have a range of internal services to deal with such circumstances and also have arrangements with a number of specialised external agencies to provide you with targeted support.

You can contact Student Support at NIoT for help, support and advice on a range of student life concerns including additional needs and reasonable adjustments, mental health and wellbeing, physical health concerns, financial hardship support, referrals for external support and for help navigating policy and procedures at NIoT, such as harassment and sexual misconduct, appeals and complaints and fitness to practice.
