NIoT congratulates Reuben Moore on his MBE
Reuben Moore, the NIoT’s executive director of programmes, has received an MBE for services to education, with a long and distinguished career training and developing teachers. The award was announced as part of the King’s Birthday Honours list.
Reuben, who lives in Leeds with his wife and son, has spent more than 25 years in teaching and teacher education, supporting teachers at every stage in their career. His particular focus has been working in areas of significant disadvantage.
His significant insights about the classroom have helped develop education policy, particularly on the new NPQ framework, ECF framework, and the ITT core content framework.
Originally hailing from Belfast, Reuben got his PGCE at the University of Cambridge, and first entered teaching back in 1998. After teaching in schools in Dorset and London, he turned to teacher education, working with Canterbury Christ Church University and later Teach First.
He became Director of Initial Teacher Training at Star Academies in 2022, before going on to be one of the founding team of the new National Institute of Teaching. He currently oversees development programmes for thousands of new and experienced teachers across England.
Reuben said: “It is humbling to receive this recognition. Throughout my career, I’ve just wanted to be useful, and my focus has always been on helping teachers and leaders to thrive in their roles. By doing that, we can support thousands of children, improving their life chances and helping them succeed.”
Melanie Renowden, chief executive of the National Institute of Teaching, said: “I’m thrilled that Reuben’s contribution to education has been recognised with an MBE today.
“As a founding member of the NIoT team, a teacher and a leader, everything he does is relentlessly focused on making a difference for children.
“If you know Reuben, you'll also know that he'll be squirming at the personal recognition. But to so many, it's entirely fitting that his expertise, effort and commitment are acknowledged and appreciated. His unwavering generosity and collegiality have left a positive impact on so many people.”
