Government plan for new Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) training course for teachers

The National Institute of Teaching welcomes the government’s commitment to funding additional training on SEND and inclusion for teachers and leaders.

Commenting on the government's announcement of £200 million towards a new SEND training course for teachers, Melanie Renowden, National Institute of Teaching Chief Executive, said:

'Teachers’ professional development is integral to improving our education system, so we welcome the government’s commitment to funding additional training on SEND and inclusion. With an investment of this scale, it is particularly important we use research evidence on professional development to increase the efficacy and impact of the training on offer, to guarantee the greatest benefit to children.'

'Implemented effectively, in partnership with schools and trusts, this investment has the potential to enable teachers and leaders to deliver better outcomes for all children, including those with SEND. We look forward to hearing further details.'
