Application, Admissions and Participation Terms and Conditions for the National Institute of Teaching’s National Professional Qualification programmes

Application and Admissions

  1. By submitting an application for consideration, applicants have accepted the terms and conditions of the NIoT NPQ programme.
  2. By submitting an application for consideration, applicants agree that the information provided is true and accurate. Any attempt to supply false or knowingly misleading information may result in a forfeit of programme fees paid, withdrawal from the programme or other appropriate action.
  3. The National Institute of Teaching reserves the right to decline any application for enrolment on a training course.
  4. Headteachers (or equivalent) of the participant's school, at the point of signing and submitting the reference, commit to:
    1. Support the participant to engage in all aspects of the programme, including the small number of sessions that take place during the school day and the end of programme assessment.
    2. Enable the participant to apply their learning in school, including providing opportunities where they may be an aspiring leader.
    3. Where DfE funding does not apply and the participant is not self-funding, pay the cost of the programme. Programme costs can be found on the relevant programme page via https://niot.org.uk/programmes
  5. If any DfE scholarship funding limits are met, the National Institute of Teaching may need to apply a set of admissions arrangements to ensure a fair distribution of funding amongst applicants from eligible schools or for eligible programmes. These arrangements will include:
    1. Maintaining a waiting list should scholarship funded places become available.
    2. Prioritising applications from small schools (< 200 pupils) and special schools
    3. Prioritising applications to broaden school participation i.e. prioritising applications from multiple schools over multiple applications from a single school
    4. Respecting as much as is possible places being awarded on a first come, first serve basis.
  6. The National Institute of Teaching reserves the right to cancel, reschedule or vary any course or part of the course due to insufficient numbers, reasons beyond its control or changes in regulations. If this were to happen and the participant was unable to meet the new schedule the National Institute of Teaching will refund any money paid for the course.
  7. Participants are entitled to a 14 day ‘cooling off ’period from the date the programme acceptance letter is issued, within which to withdraw from the programme without charge.
  8. If withdrawing after 14 days of commencing the programme, participants or their current employer which ever relevant will be liable for the full programme fee. Participants wishing to withdraw from the programme will be required, in line with the DfE contractual conditions, to provide a reason in writing.
  9. Participants cannot transfer their place on the programme to any other person under any circumstances.
  10. To formally enrol on the programme, participants must meet all enrolment requirements including school/establishment reference, Department for Education (DfE) registration and demonstrable engagement within the specified enrolment period.
  11. It is the responsibility of participants to inform the National Institute of Teaching, in writing, of any changes or amendments to personal circumstances and/or contact details.
  12. Programme fees not covered by DfE scholarships will be invoiced immediately prior to the commencement of the programme and payment should be made within 30 days of the invoice date, unless otherwise agreed in writing by the National Institute of Teaching.
  13. Where programme places are funded by their current employer, completing the referee form is considered confirmation of the National Institute of Teaching payment terms as outlined in these terms and conditions.
  14. Where course fees have not been paid within the agreed timescales as outlined in these terms and conditions, the National Institute of Teaching reserves the right to withdraw the participant from the programme or withhold the award of the related qualification.
  15. If a participant leaves their current employment and the employer had agreed to fully pay course/qualification costs including assessment fees, then liability for paying/arranging payment of unpaid monies remains with the school of the participant’s old employer.

    Participants
  16. Participants are entitled to request a period of deferment/interruption in exceptional circumstances; for example, sickness, close family sickness, bereavement, maternity/paternity leave, or other exceptional reason. Approved deferment will extend the programme completion date by the period of agreed deferment.
  17. A deferral can be granted for a maximum of twelve months, subject to participants meeting any changes to the eligibility criteria. Multiple deferrals may not be granted and could incur additional fees.
  18. Participants who defer and wish to repeat course content (including face-to-face events) may be required to pay additional charges.
  19. Participants will be provided with access to online resources for the start of the programme and for 6 months after programme completion. In instances where a deferral or extension has been granted this access period may extend beyond the original or normal length of the chosen qualification, subject to the National Institute of Teaching confirmation. Removal of participant access to the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) will also remove all content added to the VLE. Content will not be retained or archived by the National Institute of Teaching.
  20. Participants agree not to duplicate, share or in any other way infringe on the copyright of any programme materials or content without the express permission of the copyright holder.
  21. Participants are responsible for managing their attendance at face-to-face sessions. Failure to attend a booked session e.g., coaching or failure to cancel a booking without sufficient advance notice, may incur a charge of £50. Consideration may be given in exceptional circumstances (e.g., Ofsted, sickness) where prior notification has beengiven in advance of the session.
  22. The National Institute of Teaching reserves the right to rearrange a face-to-face session due to unforeseen circumstances with no financial penalty for either party.
  23. Participants are responsible for tracking their progress and completing the programme within the allotted time frame. The National Institute of Teaching will not be liable for any failure to perform any or all of its obligations where that failure is due to any cause beyond our reasonable control.
  24. Where the National Institute of Teaching cancels a training course it will not be held liable for transportation, accommodation, loss of earning or any other associated costs.
  25. Whilst participants are on any training premises they are obliged to abide by all Safeguarding, Health and Safety and other organisational policies that are in place. Where training is delivered on a school site, all associated policies must be adhered to. Where a participant is disruptive to delegates, breaches health and safety guidelines or endangers themselves or others, the National Institute of Teaching reserves the right to ask that candidate to leave the premises. Participants that are asked to leave the course for the above reasons will not be entitled to a refund.
  26. The National Institute of Teaching excludes all liability to any registered candidate whether arising in contract, tort or otherwise save that this exclusion shall not exclude its liability for death or personal injury arising from its negligence, nor its liability for fraudulent misrepresentation or misrepresentation as to a fundamental matter, nor any other liability which cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law.
  27. The National Institute of Teaching reserves the right to update these terms and conditions at any time without notice.
