Project overview

The NIoT Evidence Portal is a new resource for the teachers and leaders involved in the training and development of others. Built by a dedicated team at the national institute, the Evidence Portal brings together rigorous, high-quality research and expert perspectives from schools and trusts, and exists to empower teacher educators to be able to make evidence-informed decisions when designing and delivering professional learning and support.

The Evidence Portal currently includes two major features: the NIoT Evidence Toolkit, which contains easy-to-digest summaries of what the global systematic research says about professional learning approaches, and the ‘Your Questions’ page, which uses relevant research to answer real queries from across the sector.

The Toolkit is organised into strands that focus on a specific approach to professional learning including, coaching, lesson study, or professional learning communities. Every strand summarises what the evidence shows about the approach’s effectiveness, and evaluates its impact on teachers and pupils, and the factors that support successful implementation.

As the Portal develops, new strands and more resources will be added, including new interactive features and opportunities to share sector expertise, so that it continues to evolve in response to the priorities of schools, trusts, leaders of professional development and teachers.
