What is the NPQEL?

The National Professional Qualification for Executive Leadership will equip school leaders with the knowledge, skills, experience and networking opportunities to support their growth into executive leaders. This course builds on the knowledge you already have as experienced school leaders, and focuses on what you need to know and be able to do to effectively lead across multiple schools. You will learn:

  • How to create a Trust culture where colleagues and pupils can thrive across schools
  • How to embed effective teaching, curriculum and assessment across multiple schools
  • How to implement and sustain practices which lead to excellent pupil behaviour across schools
  • How to support all children in your schools to succeed, including those with additional and special educational needs
  • How to support and develop colleagues through trust-wide professional development
  • How to run a large organisation, such as a number of schools or as a trust-wide leader
  • How to work effectively with colleagues and other stakeholders to secure a great education for the children in your schools
  • What governance and accountability mean in the context of multiple schools

Throughout the course, you will hone your ability to work with and through other colleagues, identifying your authentic leadership style and developing your approach to management.

Who should take the NPQEL?

The National Professional Qualification for Executive Leadership is aimed at education professionals with significant leadership experience, such as serving Headteachers or those already operating at Trust level. You will be an aspiring Executive Headteacher, or aspiring to an executive role within a Trust. You may be aspiring to lead a Trust as a CEO. Whatever your career aims, the NPQEL will support you on your journey to executive leadership.
